Enchantress Amongst Alchemists: Ghost King’s Wife

First to rate.

As the editor, I'm bias. I do have reasons for this bias though. This story is better, to me, than Descent of the Phoenix and Demonic King Chases his wife. It's a lot more cuddly, and the OPness of the MC is better written. At the same time, the characters are more expansive, and you even feel some pity for the villains. However, NEVER MESS WITH THE PRETTY FEMALE MC!!!

And I actually do ship the MC and the male lead...

Plus, damn, that male lead has laaaaaayers...... more>> <<less

Rather nice. I love the long chapters and the development of our main character. The slow backstory is also very nice. Glimpses instead of stupidly long, 10+ chapters of pure backstory.

Spoiler

Especially nice was our MC on the Immortal Executioner Stage. Very unique when I read it and slowly made me love the development...

Here’s hoping our MC manages to become his master’s disciple again...

Aish, this story. It’s YaoI to the extreme, but I’m not one to care. If I had to give a Skip Beat explanation of it...

It’s like Ren Tsuruga died old and reincarnated in the young and depraved Fuwa Sho’s body and was currently going through a rise to stardom in the tone of Mogami’s OP rough ride to fame. Except everything is yaoI and there is a dark a creepily evil undertone to the entire thing with people selling their bodies and the introduction of a creepy drug trafficker.... more>>

Still good and awesome.

If you haven't read the manga, Skip Beat... it's fluffy~~ <<less

Mehs, dropped it basically. Author took a very WEIRD turn and I wouldn't be surprised if he lost a lot of Chinese readers as well. Down to a 1 star...

You can read the bottom review if you want info on before the weird arc...

Mehs.

... more>> Mehs.

So I've read all of the chapters in the raws and I have to say I enjoy it and am following it still. There are a few bad parts though that make me grimace.

The main bad part is the patriotism. Zhang Ye isn't afraid to hit and curse people who aren't Chinese, and this causes a great deal of international infamy to stack up under his name. While you may enjoy it at first since it doesn't seem very offensive, he becomes incredibly nationalistic and even focuses the butts of his jokes and curses on other countries in general.

Again, you may think it isn't a problem since he has enemies in China as well... I guess you'll just need to read it to find out. For me, personally, he goes a little too far. Making fun of individuals, and then making fun of an entire people... meh.

The second problem is the... female-male parts. MC interacts with more pretty girls than the public expects, and the interactions get a little... wow. His items from his game ring has something to do with it, but then there's the odd parts.

Spoiler

For example, when he's with Rao Aimin, he somehow gets away with groping her entire body without getting rejected. The idea that she's asleep won't cut it; she's one of the five living martial arts masters and I doubt she doesn't know what happens when they're asleep. Blah.

[collapse]

The advantages of using Luck boosts along with the Lottery becomes the most OP thing to happen. However, I'm fine with it since it makes the story more fun. Zhang Ye becomes a rather OP individual and the title of "God" fits him when everything he does, he does with aplomb. Here's a list of things he's amazing at now.

Spoiler

He solved one of the world's unsolvable math equations (Our world already solved it). He is now an associate professor of math at Peking University and one of the world's Mathematicians.

He unleashed the Panda virus and its 100 variants on South Korea due to the South Korean hacker attacks. Since he used the false ID of "2", his fame and infamy isn't impacted. He is still, however, the third rank hacker in the world due to his destructibility; his goal with the Panda Virus was only to destroy!

He is the successor of the Taijiquan, a lost martial arts with no successor (except for this one girl who still isn't as strong as him). He is equated to be near equal to the martial arts masters.

These are just a few of his greater accomplishments.

[collapse]

Otherwise, this story is amazing. My ranking of 5 should really be 4, but I can't with good conscience give that mark seeing as how I'm following the raws... <<less

While this may seem generic, there are several points that make it a unique read. Let’s just talk about the background for now:

The world the MC is in is the game world of a game he had played in his past life.

There is, of course, an OP female protagonist that is not the focus of the story.

There is, of course, a troop of males who have high specs.

There is, of course, a villainess.

Now for this story:

Spoiler

The MC is not originally one of those high spec males. Instead, he was a regular fatty who was supposed to fall into ruin along with the villainess, as said earlier.

The MC’s body is kinda high spec.

The MC has a realistic job of magic user and blacksmith.

The MC’s family is laid back and that results in their territory declining. The MC soon changes this around.

Others I can’t think of.

[collapse]
Now while the story is shoooooort, I like it because it’s different. The MC turned a bit too high spec too fast, but I do like how he and his family acts.

Update 09/04/2017:

And sigh. I lost interest when the MC got beat up by a trash pig noble and 2 henchmen... where did the high spec go? It felt like a completely useless PLOT loss so that the author could push for a romantic fluff scene next where the girl comes and cares for him. I just went and glanced through the next few chapters before stopping...

Maybe I'll pick it up later... <<less

Eh, this was fun... but then it got really weird...

Let’s just say that everything up till the MC gets his own city was awesome, then it went downhill as plot was introduced...

If you’re expecting LMS type experience in a VR, this does kind of have it... until, as I said, the city is given to the MC...

While I do like the Bloody Prince, it gets really cringy just trying to continue reading... I do like the after-story side chapters though...

After reading up to chapter 25, there are several things to note. One, the author is probably making up the story as he goes. Two, he does not edit... Three, lots of xianxia tropes.

Spoiler

Now the MC is rather generic in reincarnation standards. He's reincarnated, so he's obviously smarter than usual, but he has no qualms about showing how smart he is. He shows off his language and walking skills early and luckily gets no repercussions. Everyone is joyful about the genius.

And then there is where the author goes all confusing on the plot. For some inexplicable reason, the author decided to make the MC a trash character. The MC is viewed as a cripple and the respect he has in his household plummets. Not an uncommon theme. What is uncommon is for the author to turn around and make the MC normal/genius after only a couple chapters. He then proceeds to skip the MC's childhood completely and then move on to the school arc. Very lacklustre.

At the school, even though everyone is at least 16+, everyone seems to act like the standard 12-year-old bully. Nothing about the characters makes me assume they have maturity unless they get into a fight, the fight being instigated because of some childish Xianxia-like attitude of disrespect for strangers you look down upon.

[collapse]

The power system of this story is... weird. The first level is pretty much averaged out at age 20. That is, if you get to the first level (Saint) at age 20, you're average. 18 is genius and I already know what the MC will get. Anyways, there are so many higher levels above saint that this seems... off.

Author does not seem to have a care about giving details about events since he basically skips the first 90% of a competition cause he wants to rush. Honestly, the author's style is the especially weak point of this story since nothing about the story or characters are especially... great.

Lackluster xianxia with all the tropes and nothing interesting in it. Not recommended for people smart enough to avoid MGA since I find MGA is better written than this (not a fan of MGA, mind). <<less

Became a bit more... weird than I had expected with the MC's personality. Oh, he's a nice guy, or is at least mostly sensible most of the time.

Spoiler

So he comes across a girl (who's butt is connected to one of his magic peaches) and hears her masturbating. He confronts her and tells her to go home and do it and she tries to blackmail him into doing what she wants by saying she'll scream if he doesn't strip.

He's smart enough to understand that stripping would give her ammunition and eventually wears down her resolve.

[collapse]

What I'm most disappointed at was the lack of development for the other two women other than the main girl...

But yea. It's one of the better erotica translations I've come across.

Weirdest thing?
Spoiler

He eventually comes to the conclusion that the Magic Peach was connected to a person's butthole and does several experiments. Eventually comes to another conclusion that putting anything into the peach will result in that thing appearing in the other person's ass.

If a bit sticks out and isn't all the way inside the peach butt, then while it does have the presence of affecting the person's butthole, the item will not appear.

He uses this to his advantage by putting a plastic bag in (to prevent stuff getting wet) and then putting what he needs inside the peach butt plastic bag).

He basically has a real world dimension bag... only the size is tiny because realistically speaking, a butt can't carry THAT much.

A sugary story packed with sweetness. MC is amazing in her own right and there's something about dense female protagonists that is fun to read... maybe it's how they're always paired with male leads that are up front with their feelings...

I'm also still wondering; is her super dishes something she was born with or something that got boosted when she got the Holy Sword... ?

Hrm, a DD3 review... I guess the main issues new readers will ask is how it compares with DD1 and DD2.
Spoiler

First off, the story follows the pattern TJSS is setting and is 10, 000 years after DD2 finished. This makes it 20, 000 years ahead of DD1. For those wondering if the first two stories had any impact on the current one, you'll find that the main characters of both have become old legends and fantastical myths.

The main character of DD3 is Tang Wulin. His background is easy to spoil if you read TJSS's short story, DD2. 5. Otherwise, he'll appear as the most ordinary MC of the three stories. His parents are mainly ordinary low-income parents and he awakened to a trash Bluesilver Grass. Unlike Tang San, his talent in it is completely mundane. As a character he is the more relatable one of the three as he lacked Tang San's deep maturity and Huo Yuhao's polarizing childishness and avenging air.

Shrek does not become a part of Tang Wulin's life for a number of chapters. Instead, TJSS introduces the world of DD3 to readers through Tang Wulin's interaction with more ordinary academies, various organizations, as well as school competitions for youngsters like himself.

The setting of DD3 reveals that the world has entered the modern-ish era. Soul Power grows to become the equivalent of energy as it powers machines and devices in this world. Of course, this means that Soul Masters become portable batteries and have more flexibility with the devices. TJSS also introduces two new combat methods for Soul Masters. That is, Mechas (giant robots controlled by a pilot) and Battle Armor (mechanical armor that promotes the user's abilities). Both have their perks and their issues and TJSS slowly expands on them as the story continues.

Overall I view DD3 as the better of the trilogy. While I liked DD1, the MC wasn't as relatable to me and the world really was quite simple and ordinary. DD2 had a lot of new things that contrasted greatly with DD1. It was refreshing, but the issue for me was the MC. TJSS didn't make Huo Yuhao that relatable and to me he was just a really angsty teenager.

If you liked the world of Douluo Dalu, you'll find that DD3 continues to offer up its diverse range of fleshed-out martial souls and detailed battles. A nice improvement from the two is TJSS developing the MC's side jobs. In DD1, Tang San had the side job of forging and constructing as he remade his original world's hidden weapons. In DD2, Huo Yuhao developed and made advanced Soul Devices that grew better as his martial soul matured. Neither was explained in great detail and was disappointingly sidelined.

DD3 took this to a new level with its blacksmithing. The MC is a prodigy of blacksmithing and TJSS does not skimp on the details and scenes as the MC forges. One of the best parts of the story to me is actually the blacksmithing scenes as it seems to breathe more life into the story and shows that the world of DD isn't just focused on martial souls.

Yes. Exactly what I wanted. The game system is extremely plain and simple, but put to very good use in this novel. It's not even a game system.

The cooking is seamlessly integrated into the story and doesn't come off as awkward at all. Characters are memorable and fun, and the girls are a plus~~ MC is very much an adult, which suits his position in the story. His character flows just right for me.

My only hate is how I can't read ahead Q. Q

Another Fang Xiang novel! Like WoC, the characters are what make the story. Stubborn training idiot MC and the various characters around him are outstandingly done. No one looks generic, and the interactions are addicting to read.

This story is kind of what I imagined WDQK would be, except WDQK went the generic plot route and MGA-esque tone of story while UGW sticks to the plot of a training idiot getting stronger. He was a training addict at the beginning, and is still a training addict now. No idiotic change... more>> to some generic plot that doesn't work. Just plain epicness.

Like WoC, there are three general power systems in the novel, and we can see the MC touching upon them all. There is the martial area where people use Spirit Armor and Weapons to promote their power and train their skills and cultivation through the teachings of Spirit Cards. There's the Onyx group that focuses on the body and activating epic blood meridians to gain special abilities and stronger power. And then there's the clan union which focuses on fusing the body with Spirit Generals (Read And Find Out) and other Spirit Cards in a seriously cheat way of becoming powerful.

Why should you read this? Cause it's a Fang Xiang work. it's also 200 chapters translated... Oh, there's a teacher ghost who has just as much personality as you'd expect from a Fang Xiang novel.

Seriously though, Fang Xiang writes good characters... <<less

Just one part of the entire thing was enough to sum up my feelings for the story:

“If I knew there would be a day I would love you this much.

I would definitely fall in love with you at first sight. ”

... more>> If I knew this story was going to be that good, I would have read it early on. Something I needed to read after all the unfinished, cliched stuff on the site. It’s also nice to understand where the Dreams of Jianghu translation name came from.

Attractive story without the bumps and problems associated with other stories. Just One Smile Is Very Alluring (I’ll call it by what Dreams of Jianghu calls it) is a story that gives the relationships at the beginning and keeps at it. Not a long story, not a short one, just enough that we want more yet understand that there won’t be more...

I’m now on to reading the bonus chapters... ton of them... guess the author also felt the need to expand the world?

I would give 4/5 but I know that would just be because I wanted more... So yea, 5.

Also, for people a bit turned off about the MMORPG aspect of it... IT'S A XUANHUAN MMORPG!!! Lots of xuanhuan and immortal terms and I found myself really wishing to play it. Different from TKA where the book makes the game exciting, this story has an exciting game in general... <<less

Only true Xianxia I’ve read. If you read Ren’s explanation of what Xianxia is, you’d understand that stories like BTTH, ATG, ISSTH, CD, and all of those aren’t really Xianxias, but Extreme Fantasy Xianxias. This one has the roots of Taoism and Buddhism in the story and has a focus of the Evil and Good factions. Probably the closest other Fantasy Xianxia I’ve read was ST, but that thing went major fantasy after the MC became a true practitioner.

WARNING: I SUGGEST YOU EITHER READ THE 2CH THREAD CHAPTER ONLY, OR READ THE 70+AFTERWARD CHAPTERS AND IGNORE THE 2CH THREAD.

The 2ch thread is a condensed version and skips some new ideas, but the overall story is there. I'd suggest the 70 chapters though.

Well, this was a trip. If you were expecting a story about a laidback MC who seems a bit cool since he's already lived his life and his second time was pretty much a smooth trip, then you'd be wrong. Our MC dies at 20... more>> years old and returns to when he was 10, but his memory is scrambled, imperfect.

From the start, this MC believed his first life was perfect and only wanted to relive that perfect life so he tried to imitate that first life perfectly.

He failed halfway through.

It's a roller coaster of feels, but don't expect details about his fails and failures. You'll get his overall feelings of his trip and actions, that's it.

Why did I add the Netorare tag?
Spoiler

When he still believes TsugomI is his past life girlfriend, he has to watch as she hooks up with his doppleganger, Tokiwa, and since he understands most of what she and him did in the past life, he knew when and where they would lose their virginity.

Ai... while the premise was nice, the delivery was kinda subpar. Our main character is too caught up in trying to hide his skills so that he can reveal them explosively later in life. Magic system seems kinda limited in scope and quite boring. MC’s advantages are meh.

Characters are weak. Only one I really like is that wind mage best friend who’s called Monkey. Dunno why. More badass than the MC for sure.

Story sometimes doesn’t know if it’s a mage story or an ecchI story. When the female... more>> teacher was introduced, it became a bit agonizing to continue.

Far too many League of Legend references.

While the story says all modern appliances have basically be replaced with magic... how? No expansion on this idea which makes it confusing.

At first I was hesitant to try reading this since the old tags made me think it was up front NTR rape of heroines by orcs. Instead, the rapes done are in the background, and the MC isn’t perverted enough that the story focuses on the state of the girls after being raped. This creates a maturity I find reassuring.

Probably a bad thing is how focused the MC is on his low “values”. I am still unsure how handsome the MC is in the eyes of the other girls,... more>> but he pretty much believes he’s low stats. At the same time, he tries to push them away which is kind of endearing to his character. Still a bit of a grind to read if you dislike emotionally unstable and confidence-lacking MCs with a habit of acting before thinking when feelings are excited...

The concept of White Room and levels are quite nice. I’m unsure if the skills are able to be reset, but the mix and match of the skills at the moment are quite well done.

Heres hoping none of the girls get NTRed. Mia for best girl! <<less
