A very enjoyable novel. But messy grammar in volume 3. Sigh... Volume 1 had decent translation, volume 2 had some messy grammar here and there. Volume 3 showcased of more weird grammar sentences.

4 star from me. This is a good novel. Recommended read.4 Star is only based on The novel and not the translation.

We are 3 volumes in and title doesnt seem to have any relation with whats been written. Perhaps we will be shown more by the writer in future volumes. Or it has something to do with his... more>> goals of finnishing up unfinnished buseniss in the capital. Who knows. <<less

So far I really enjoyed this novel. I pretty sure this has harem in it but I really enjoy the romance in here with each girls. They don't just suddenly fall in love with him after the first moment of meeting. So far they haven't completely falling for him yet but there's a lot of hint they are going to eventually. There's a build up to the romance if there is any romance that will develop. The story itself is funny and each character actually has peaonality and not one... more>> demension. Over all so far I would rate this 5 star. <<less

Very interesting so far!

The background is that MC got tricked (used as a test subject) by his master into learning random (but famous and powerful) martial arts from different sects. Now MC managed to become OP after much physical sufferings. But what would you do when you are the most powerful fighter? Retire of course! Because being strong is not profitable when all sects are broke and in this world you can't do anything without money!

It's writen in first person perspective and the narration is just gold. The translation... more>> is smooth as well, nothing chunky that sours the mood with its long run-on sentences. I can't comment yet about the plot, as the story is only starting. Usually I'd wait a while before leaving a review, but this one caught my attention enough for me to recommend it. I guess you can say the attraction is really in the MC's narration as he makes a comment about everything around him.

[update chapter 11: I stand my ground. Will update with better review after more chapters] <<less

Idea is interesting as it is something new which is hard to come these days. This story is light read that can make you laugh a bit. Story... well story is only starting so I cant say much but for now but it shows promise. Translations is spotless as far I can tell.

I give it 3 stars for few reasons:

  • Main character is a wimp like biggest wimp ever. cannot stand for himself at all and just does everything his master tells him to do. no self preservation even after his master tricks him and he ends up bedridden for long time.
  • Setting to be a predictable plot. You can kinda know what to expect at this point as there is a huge number of mentioned issues that leave alot of working room to develop but most of them are kinda obvious.
  • Author keeps making jokes about gays and traps. At the start it was funny after 5th time it was same old stuff.
Of course this novel have a lot of room to maneuver, so with time it might be better.

First time writing a review so forgive me for any errors that I might make in this review.

Decided to create an account just for reviewing and rating this novel for it's comedic, light hearted and intriguing storyline. The background is the story is based on a martial artist that has emerged from a sect and has a wastrel as a master that only knows how to steal skill books from other sect and throwing it at his convenience at our MC, Ming Fei Zhen for testing the efficiency and authenticity of the skill books, this allows the MC to learn different top notch skill sets from different Martial artist background. He eventually decides to head out to the world in order to experience the world himself, but he ends up being a master within a short period of time and has sick with the current status of the martial world. So, what does our OP yet unfortunate MC do? He decides to retire and earn money yet has no other capabilities other than fighting and decides to join the constables in order to get a high revenue. This story is comedic gold and it made me laugh till my side hurts on a couple of occasions

- Comedic gold
- Strong MC that has the ability to back himself up
- A read different from the norm

- Lack of tension due to MC being too overpowered
- Can't seem an end game plot yet at the current volume and little of the MC past is divulged at the current point

To conclude, IMO, this novel is a must read due to it being pretty funny in my own standards and I personally prefer OP MC rather than MC that takes a long time to progress in strength. So, start reading it!

Leaving a review here because the translator seems to mind these alot and cries easily if many people gives a bad rating so I'll give it a 4.

I really like this novel, it's one of the funnier novels out there but the reason why it doesn't get a 5 and a 4 is because it doesn't have a plot. I haven't finished volume 2 since I'm waiting for more chapters to read but so far it's just the MC goofing off with his 2 friends who, are made into goofy... more>> characters by the MC despite their serious character. The main female lead also seems to have become a comical character and somehow everyone seems to tolerate the MC's nonsense which is not logical, since they believe the MC to have no value at all to the organization.

The end of volume 1 drops a hint about the MC past which doesn't make sense, trying to make it a little more serious and perhaps introduce an antagonist but....

Right now, it's really just a feel good novel, where the MC goofs around and brings everyone down to his level. There's nothing wrong in reading this or getting more people to read it but there's also no main issue to talk about, unlike the silly alchemist which actually a power struggle taking place in the background and a main antagonist. <<less

I'm picky about which novels I pick up.

So, I thought this would be great based on the reviews. This is story is amusing at times.

However, it lacks depth and a goal/resolution to drive the story forward. There is nothing that attaches you to the MC or story. Lack of tension as well.

Love this novel. Big fan of the protagonist strong from the start setting in the first place. And this novel does justice to that setting. Also doesnt take itself too seriously, and the humour is excellent. More chinese novels need to incorporate humor like this. Ive read 100+ chinese webnovels by now and the best ones are the funniest ones like this one and A Will Eternal

Well written, but the premise is stupid. Also, the author most be a Japanese expat, as ridiculous of an idea as that is. This is the same "I'm hilariously powerful, but I'll never actually make a move to solve my problems directly, instead I'm satisfied with having my nose rubbed in the dirt at every turn" bullsh*t that I see in every Japanese novel I crack open.

Highly recommending this novel. It's a story that is often humorous and exciting, but everyone in a while, a little bit touching. This story is about retired martial artist who has become sick of the jianghu and now wishes to earn an honest living. However, as a rather lazy individual, the MC must find his way to slack through his work. Unfortunately, his past seems like it won't leave him alone, and it doesn't seem like his new job will be that easy as well.

I found in to be an enjoyable comedy novel. The author has written a surprisingly deep setting for the world to the point where there's almost too much to remember.

Traps are everywhere lol

Nah, not really.

Okay, to business now. This story's really funny. The characters have good reactions and interactions. Gotta love them. Side characters are adorable.

... more>> Might get slightly confusing (on the small details), but overall it's not hard to understand the main points.

MC' like Saitama from OPM. Not too many people know and he usually doesn't use super fancy high class moves. I love it when MC's hide their abilities. Those reveals are always the best. MC's not the honest upright type, but it adds to the funniness and story.

Main girl is kinda confusing, but everyone's thinking it's the martial aunt. Not too much romantic development yet.

The story feels a bit slice-of-life-ish. There's action and good action, but it's mostly focusing on the main story of retirement with some cleaning. <<less

Decently funny but sometimes the MC and plot just don't make sense with how forced the 'I must not use my op stregnth' is.

Also the author is very hung up on forcing the the gay/yaoi undertone with the trap and even a reverse trap now. It got old after the 10th time and it's on the 999th iteration by now.

pretty hilarious and having a quite captivating illustration style (on its arts)

the series is about an OP hero who has now achieved the pinnacle of martial arts albeit through extreme past hardships and injustice treatments from his "jerk" and egotistical shifu (master)

he is a laid-back and a bit perverted (alright~ QUITE perverted... LOL) and also a cynical person, plus could also be a jerk who loves being a "bootlicker" while also, in a rare occasion, acting chivalrous when the situation demands, but more importantly he also loves to... more>> give hilarious opinions or "comebacks" (tsukkomi) about the beauties and friends around him

yeah, I wrote about beauties (plural... LOL) and a top-notch art-styles so you can definitely expect some "treats" from the author

Martial King's Retired Life could be rated as an adult read due to its fighting and brawling scene (which can be quite gory in some instances), but this lack any explicit "bed-scenes" (you can expect some "fan-services" from its arts and the MC's perverted tendencies, however, so don't worry too much, in case you came for the "plot")

overall, I find this series as an enjoyable seinen, male youth around age 17/18 and above, series (it is mainly targeted for male audiences, but this should not stop you, female readers, from enjoying this revolved-around-OP-character-series) which offers comedic ambience and the carefree-yet-still-powerful-and-OP hero

please note, however, that this is not a harem series (so far I'm reading the first chapter of the 2nd Volume) where the heroines fall in love with our MC "out of nowhere" and IN FACT, the heroines consider our MC as just an average man who has no worth and no ability as a "Martial World's Top Fighter" (while he is actually one of the "godfather") whatsoever (although this judgment partially comes from MC's decision to "stay-low" and to just enjoy his "retired" life)

in conclusion, do give Ming Feizhen (the MC's name) a chance to prove his (and also the author's) worth!

happy reading! <<less

Hilarious novels with good plot. Although sometimes the jokes doesn't get to me but nevertheless it's worth to read. What's more, this is not your as usual face slapping, arrogant mob, stupid ass arrogant MC novels.

Really funny story some chapters had me cracking up. I'd say the story is good and I'd like to see what happens in the future but if translator is under too much pressure then can't help it.

if I had to describe this novel i'd say it's far from the norm

the main element is comedy, and at times it might get a bit repetitive, but all in all it's one of the series I enjoy the most reading

the start was a bit confusing and slow, but then it really shined from the middle of the first volume onwards

for people looking for something different this is a sure thing

The start is kind of slow but it picks up a bit. The series is kind of chill and there's a lot of set up for the comedy but it's hilarious when the punch line is delivered.

Browsing thru NU, this title got my curiosity and after reading the description, I finally read it and I'm so glad that I did. For me this is not a generic xanxia/wuxia or whatever they call it (sorry don't know the difference), it's more like KonoSuba in a kung-fu world. It have more gags, 4th wall break and stupidity (in a good way) than fighting/action. The gags made me laugh and everything on it is interesting.

If your looking for a light hearted, action, comedy chinese novel then give this one... more>> a try.

I rate this 5/5 (it's either 5 or 1 to me) <<less

Almost 50 chapters in and still no H-scenes with the adult tag, was laughing the whole way reading it.

MC is so underestimated despite being so powerful that I pity him.

The fact that he's stingy, perverse and wants for nothing but a stable life makes him comparable with the MC from Kono Suba.

The start is a little weak, a little too perverted, and shows too little of the MC to really be interesting. But the story picks up by the end of the second volume, as the MC's layers are slowly peeled back and we learn much more about him. I think its unfair to judge the story before the second volume, so at the very least read the second volume before judging.

My first review on this site--but this LN's quality stands out in a way that it simply must be commented on. The Translator has taken a very fluid approach in translating this. He isn't stiff like most machine translators, or semi-flexible like a long board, but rather translates like water.--Its a completely dynamic and flexible translation that really, truthfully read really well like it was written in English to start with. The only times I am reminded that its not written in English is when some terms come up regarding... more>> rankings or cultivation terms.

The LN itself is very good as well, and its a shame it doesn't have more people reading it. Its a Comedy/Puzzle with a bit of action spread about, with the standard process of revealing info to solve the puzzle. Its a solid read that is honestly one of my favorite LNs listed on NU. Com. <<less
